LITTLE SNOWY ARCTIC FOX

New to the US, but far from a new brand, Fjallraven ‘Arctic fox’ began 50 years ago in Sweden, and is one of the best known, and highly regarded makers of fine outdoor gear in the world. Each product has one purpose in mind, even in the harshest conditions, to make the outdoors more accessible to more people. Blackbird and Birgitta stocked up on Kanken Backpacks originally built for Swedish school children, theses colorful bags are Fjallraven’s most well-known and loved item. Both a backpack and a bag with handles, the Kanken is the same today as when it was released 30 years ago.
The Kanken was initially marked as a symbol of liberal political views and sometimes called “the Communist Hunchback” by stubborn detractors stuck on the old messenger style bags of their childhood, but Fjallraven’s founder, Ake Nordin, hoped to sell 200 Kanken bags in their first year. He sold 400. The next year sales reached 30,000. Thirty years later, you can still get yours.

SPIKED SILVER STUDS

PUMP UP THE VOLUME
UMI Foam was recently put to the test and fared well against its competitors. Allure magazine asked cosmetic chemist Jim Hammer to put the volumizer to the test. Hammer found that the Dead Sea salt in UMI Foam made for a great volumizer and gave have a thicker coarser texture which makes it easier to create more volume.
